Anthony J. Kameen, MD
Ophthalmologist, Sub-Investigator
Retina Research of Beaufort
I entered private practice in 1986 and began a General Ophthalmology practice specializing in cataract surgery. In 1992 I was the first person in the area to perform Radial Keratotomy (4000 procedures), Astigmatic Keratotomy (2000 procedures) and Automated Lamellar Keratectomy (100 procedures). In 1996 I introduced FDA approved Photorefractive Keratotomy (PRK) to the area and performed approximately 5000 procedures over the next two years. I then introduced Lasik to the area in 1997 and have since performed in excess of 100,000 procedures to date. I am currently performing Lasik and PRK using an IFS Intralase and a Wavelight/Allegretto (Alcon) 500 Hz laser. I am continuing to perform phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implantation and have performed over 25,000 cataract and refractive lens exchange procedures in my career. I am currently using monofocal, toric and multifocal premium lenses. I am performing Catalys Femtosecond technology in approximately 85% of lens procedures. I performed the first KAMRA Inlay (AcuFocus) procedures in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast in July of 2015. AcuFocus named Kameen Eye Associates one of two Centers of Excellence in the U.S. for physician and surgeon training. I began performing the Staar ICL procedure in 2011, and was a certified trainer in Dr. Battles clinic in the Dominican Republic for several years. I believe I have performed approximately 100 Staar ICL cases in my own clinic setting. I continue to pursue spectacle independence using corneal (LASIK and PRK), Presbyopic (KAMRA Inlay), ICL (Staar surgical) and premium Intraocular Lens procedures. I enjoy training and teaching other surgeons and matching the best visual performance with the best technology and greatest chance of spectacle independence. This remains my continuing goal.
